FACL is currently undertaking the EHSS (environmental, health, safety, gender, HIV and social) management plan implementation for the construction works for the Karimenu II dam water supply project which is financed by The Government of Kenya (GoK) and the Export-Import Bank of China. The Project aims to supply water to Juja, Ruiru and parts of Nairobi.
Approach & Methodology
The Works of the Project involves: (1) construction of main dam, auxiliary dam, spillway and tunnel for the reservoir of the water project; (2) construction of water treatment plant to supply 70,000m3/day of clean water; (3) construction of raw water to convoy water from the reservoir to water treatment plant and treated water pipeline to convoy water from the water treatment plant to Juja, Ruiru, Gigiri and other destination points; (4) design services including the design of the work. FACL work in the project is to ensure compliance with Kenyan legal and other requirements as well as contract conditions for promotion of environmental protection, workers safety and security, community safety and security and the overall environmental and social sustainability of the project.
